E. Achille Kodom, P.E. is Owner at EAKOM Engineering & Consulting.

With his undergraduate and graduate studies in Civil Engineering from Ecole Nationale Superieure d'Ingenieurs in TOGO, Achille Kodom set his sights on furthering his education and becoming a capable engineer - a premier profession in his native land.

A math and science aficionado, Achille was drawn to engineering. As he progressed in school, he obtained a Baccalaureat Series C (Math & Physics major) and successfully passed the entrance exam to the top engineering school in West Africa. From 2001 to 2004, he worked as construction superintendent, structural engineer, and construction project manager on several high profile design-build projects in Africa including the headquarters of Banque Atlantique (Atlantic Bank) in TOGO.

With his ability to learn, adventurous spirit, curiosity, and his willingness to take risks, he moved to the USA to pursue higher education and obtain his PhD. He knew he has to overcome the language barrier to become a successful professional in a country where he could no longer speak French.

"In Togo and in Africa in general, the most desired professions were medical, architectural and engineering. I was shocked when I came to the USA and found out that engineers were not at the top here", he said.

Once in the USA, he worked at WMC Consulting Engineers in Newington, CT designing local bridges while studying English at Charter Oak State College and Central Connecticut State University. Instead of continuing his postgraduate studies as he planned when he left his homeland to pursue his PhD, he decided (after graduating Magna Cum Laude with a  Master of Science in Structural Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University) to join the industry. Achille worked for structural engineering firms in North Carolina and Dallas, TX. He then moved to West Texas and remained there until he founded EAKOM Engineering & Consulting in 2012.

Achille has extensive experience in structural engineering consulting for commercial, educational, religious, institutional, industrial including water & wastetwater treatment plants, pump stations, and structures associated with pipelines. From light industrial to heavy industrial, from small additions to multi-mullion dollars structures, Achille brings energy and a personal touch that fosters collaboration and team spirit. His extensive experience designing with multiple structural systems including structural steel, concrete, pre-cast concrete, masonry, light gauge steel and timber framing materials gives him the ability to offer his clients creative and cost-effective solutions.

For his outstanding achievements and dedication to his profession, Achille received the Young Engineer of The Year Award presented by the Permian Basin Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) in 2013.
